D is for Dates and a Happy Stomach

Dates, not the awkward first dinner meeting but the fruit, are a great staple for healthy intestines. This little fruit packs a punch as it contains calcium, sulfur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium which are all beneficial for a balanced and healthy diet. I like to eat dates whenever I am feeling low on energy as studies show that it can significantly boost energy levels in people within half an hour of consuming it. Good bye sugary foods to boost my mid-day drag!

The benefits of dates include relief from constipation and intestinal disorders. Dates are often categorized as a laxative food which is why dates are so frequently eaten by people suffering from constipation. Dates have high levels of soluble fiber, which is essential in promoting healthy bowel movements and the comfortable passage of food through the intestinal tract which can stimulate the digestion of food. This means that more nutrients will be absorbed by the digestive tract and enter your body for proper usage.

In the Muslim religion, breaking a fast by eating dates and water is very common. This helps avoid overeating of food and also helps the body begins to absorb the high nutritional value of the dates, which pacifies the feeling of hunger.

All in all, if you are having digestive issues (very common among women) try eating dates to regulate and balance your tummy!
