Spring is Coming, are You and Your Skin Ready?

When the Spring season begins, the days get longer and humidity starts to climb, which means we begin to switch the scarves and sweater for sandals and shorts. This also means that this is the month for Spring Cleaning!  So as we toss out the old and introduce the new – we should do the same for our Springtime Skin!

By now, we all know that sun exposure is bad and protection is good! But as the Sun starts to stay out longer, there are a few tips to know, to be sure you’re protecting your skin and preventing premature aging.

1. EXFOLIATE
Just like animals shed their winter coats, you too need to shed all the dry, dead skin from your skin. Using good exfoliating scrub daily will help and prevent dull dry skin from rearing its ugly head!

2. Buy new SPF
Did you know that sunscreen and sunblock expire? Get your skin ready for spring by checking the expiration date stamped on your sunscreens. If it’s expired, get a new bottle. This goes for moisturizers and lip balms with built-in SPF protection, too.

3. USE A GOOD ANTI-OXIDANT

An antioxidant is a molecule that stops the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, leading to chain reactions that will damage cells. In skin, this action leads to sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and overall premature aging.
Vitamin C (or L- ascorbic acid) is one of the gold standards in skincare when using as a topical antioxidant.

Vitamin C is an essential vitamin for maintaining a healthy body and healthy skin. Yet, the body processes ingested Vitamin C so quickly it never reaches the outer layers of our skin, which is why we need a topical application for protection! Studies show that, when applied to the skin, L-ascorbic acid stimulates collagen synthesis, provides sun protection and protects the skin by reducing free radicals that would otherwise destroy skin cells and their components. Topical vitamin C has also been shown to improve skin texture and tone, reduce brown spots, decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and help prevent their formation.
