The weather index may be at its lowest yet it does not mean your skin has to suffer the consequences. Chilly temperatures, biting winds and dry indoor heat can wreak havoc on skin during the winter season. It is important to keep your skin happy during colder climates. Here we have the survival guide to keep radiant when times get chilly.
Dr. Wright’s Tip
It is always good to have a plan of action when the climate plays havoc on your skin. For this survival guide it is a good thing to do the following:
- Moisturize
- Avoid hot showers
- Exfoliate
- Always wear sunscreen
- And seek expert advice
Cold winter air is far less humid than warm air, which means skin will be drier in the winter months. Using nutrient-rich moisturizing cream is the most important remedy for winter-beaten skin. To have smoother, softer, younger looking skin, and reduce the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles, make sure to apply a moisturizer at least 2 times a day. Avoid hot showers because hot water breaks down the important lipid barriers that preserve skin’s moisture. Exfoliate regularly in the shower to allow more absorption of your moisturizer. Exfoliation not only gets rid of dry, rough patches of skin, but it also promotes new cell growth. Also, even though it may be cloudy and the sun is less predominate there is always a need for SPF.
