Skincare Myth: My makeup has SPF, so there is no need for me to apply a Sunscreen

This is false. Are you part of the hype that believes since your makeup has SPF, there is no need for daily sun protection? Did you know that is just a marketing gimmick? Make-up formulated with SPF has very little to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays.

Dr. Wright’s Tip

Daily sun protection is very important for skin care. Using an SPF under your make-up will decrease your chances of receiving skin cancer. It will also help from getting pigmentation and helps reduce the signs of aging, which can decrease the reason you wear make-up to begin with. Even if you are pressed for time, it only takes a minute to apply sunscreen which will benefit you in the long haul. So don’t be part of the crowd that believes your make-up is protection enough.  We have several different brands of sunscreen that we carry in our office. Some of the sunscreens even have great anti-aging ingredients and are tinted. Also, don’ forget to wear a hat when you are going to be out in the sun a lot.
